Discerning our Conversations

Paul here is writing to the young leader Timothy and it is amazing how relevant these letters still are to this day. In this verse he warns against people who busy themselves with things that are not helpful and tells Timothy not to get sucked into controversial speculations. But how do we know when a conversation is good or bad? How can I know when people are trying to be helpful or destructive?
Well Paul gives us a little hint.... he describes these conversations as NOT "advancing God's work". This is our filter!! Be honest with yourself, when in a conversation. What is the fruit of this conversation? What is the outcome? Will it take their life, your life and the life of God's work forward, to a stand still or backwards? If the answer is negative, excuse yourself from it or if you have the relationship, lead the conversation with truth and love in a new direction. We all need to take heed to this warning as we can all have our "moments" where we fall into this trap, so let's by God's Grace aim today to have conversations that advance God's work.
