Why Don't We Get It?
The title of my journal this morning is fairly judgmental and critical - "why don't we get it". That's because when I observe my own life, and that of most Christians I know, we do a terrible job of "coming away" to a quiet place for prayer.
When the disciples returned to Jesus after a ministry trip and reported all that they had done ... what was Jesus' response? "Come away to a deserted place and rest".
When Jesus finished feeding the 5,000 ... he sent the disciples on ahead so he could go up on the mountain and pray.
As Christians, we're taught over and over the importance of prayer, yet we usually stink at it. Now, I realize plenty of people reading this do a great job with this discipline, but I struggle daily. Sure, I talk to God and I read my Bible ... but "coming away" to a deserted place ... finding solitude, in this culture? Are you kidding?
God help us!
