Hidden in My Heart
I find it interesting that the word hidden is used here. From our modern American standpoint, we see hidden and might be tempted to think of hiding Scripture from the world, or even hiding that we are engaged in Scripture (or Christianity in general). But the idea of hiding something goes deeper I think.
Other times in Scripture when something is hidden, it is something of great value, something that was hidden because of it's great value so that no one could come and take it away. We let so many things into our lives that compete for God's attention, that there is no shortage of things (or people) who can "steal" Scripture from us. The only way to keep this from happening is to recognize that Scripture has incredible value and needs to be protected at all costs. So we memorize it, we hide it in our hearts to keep it safe so that we might be able to use it in our lives.
