...and sent Timothy...
Paul and Silvanus needed someone they trusted, that they could send to the Thessalonians- who they so loved, and missed. So, they chose Timothy! A guy who when you read 1st and 2nd Timothy, you see that he was sort of a timid guy, and one who needed a confidence boost in his ministry now and again. but here, we see that paul is calling him "brother and minister of God, and our Fellow laborer in the Gospel of Christ"! Paul considered him to be his "son in the faith", but here he calls him "brother". Timothy went from a well respected young believer in Derby and Lystra, to a co-laborer, and trusted brother of Paul!! He sent him to "establish and encourage" the thessalonians! This young guy(not sure just how old he was at this point), has always intrigued me!! He was raised well by his mom, and grandma. Then taken under the wing of the apostle paul, ...and here we see he is being sent out on a special mission to "establish and encourage" these believers!! ...it would seem that Timothy was a well-rounded, and sort of a "multi-use tool" in the ministry!! paul was able to send him out to encourage believers, to be a pastor in ephesus, and he also kept him around to assist him in his own ministry!!! whatever the need was in the ministry, it would seem that paul could trust timothy to get it done!! ...how i desire to be useful like this, in the ministry!!!
