A Holy Life

In verse 7, it says "God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life." Then in verses 11-12, it says "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody."

What does it really mean to live a quiet life? Well, it says to mind your own business and do your own work. I think I struggle with that a lot. I find myself wanting to get into other people's business when I have no right sometimes. I just need to sit back and realize that God is in control and he is handling everything. I don't have to take someone else's life into my own hands because even my life is not my own to take care of. All I can do in regard to other's lives is to pray continually and to obey the Holy Spirit if he leads me to act. How much easier is that said than done!!! And what does he say will happen? That we may win the respect of outsiders and not depend on anyone. For me, I respect those that do not try to "fix" my situation with their own thoughts, but sit back and listen, and if I ask for advice or if the Holy Spirit leads them, they give it. Also, I know that living a "quiet life" doesn't entail not speaking ever again and isolating yourself so that you are not in anyone's business. I believe that it is simply living a life in obedience to God and "speaking if necessary". A lot of times, I think we underestimate the power of how our daily lives can speak to someone. So let us begin TODAY to live lives worthy of the One who created us, so that through our lives we might draw others closer to Him. "Today, if you hear the Lord's voice, do not harden your hearts."

Grace and peace to you all
