What does it mean to be the people of God?
Here is a great example of what it means to be the people of God. The children of Israel were busy minding their own business, and receiving God's blessing. This threatened the powers that be, and caused them to bring on the persecution and slavery. This pattern doesn't change much throughout history. Jews still face persecution, and in many places so does Christianity. When a move of God begins, the powers of darkness move to subdue it or crush it. Ironically, that very persecution is what brings the mighty acts of God to the forefront. It is this move to subdue the line of Abraham that sets the stage for a deliverer, Moses. When we go through difficult times, this is when God shapes us in deep ways. When we get to the end of ourselves and our abilities, where we have to trust God to take over, that is when amazing things happen. This is a great truth, but frustrating as well (at least to me). I wish there were an easier way to produce life change, and make us hungry for God, but God will do what He must to get our attention and shape us into His image.
