Life... God knows it better than we do

Piecing together my life on a poster board was a challenging, as well as a therapeutic exercise. As I looked down at the poster, the two sections separated by the different color post-it notes, differentiating significant people on the bottom and significant events on the top. It was hard in ways to refrain from putting every little detail that I remembered over the past 24+ years of my life. As I was piecing together, thoughts from past events flooded my mind, I couldn’t help but be amazed to see where I’ve come from to where I am now. Crazy.

During intern training, we interns took turns explaining the posters and why we set each set them up the way we did. It was pretty cool to see the other 4 interns’ life on a poster. Next Jim asked us to grab another color post-it and cover up each event and person that we associate with pain or heartache. There were a lot of things covered up. Next he asked us to grab another color and cover up names and events that we associate with growth. Again there were a lot of things covered up. A lot of the painful events of people were also associated with growth.

I really enjoyed this exercise and it really made me think a lot about where God has lead me over the years. Reading Psalm 139 and applying it to the poster assured me that God knows me better than anyone else. He formed me in my mother’s womb. He knows my thoughts and actions before I even think and do them. So looking at my life on a poster covered in different post-its seeing all that has happened, I know for sure that God’s hand has been there through all of it.
