Provider Alone is Not Enough
In this verse Ruth takes a forward move. She proposes that she becomes something more than a worker in a field under Boaz's protection. She asks Boaz to be more than just a source of provision. She wants to move to a more intimate relationship with him. She asks that he take her as a wife.
In the same way, we can view God as a great source of provision and protection, but God wants to be so much more to us. He wants us to walk in an intimate relationship with him. It's not something that is forced upon us. Love is not love if it is coerced. Like Ruth, we can approach him. We have that right (since it was purchased for us) to approach him and ask him for a relationship that goes beyond what we are already experiencing.
