Esther’s initial push-back was that she couldn’t do anything to address the threat to the Jews without great personal risk. Mordecai convinced her that God had arranged for her to be in that strategic position for a purpose, not just for her enjoyment.
Meanwhile, Mordecai’s faith was strong. Even should Esther not step out, he was convinced that God would deliver the Jews from Haman’s threat, not allowing His people to be wiped out by this evil plot.
Esther did recognize that with her position came responsibility. She called the people to fast and pray to prepare the way. Then she would step out on behalf of her people.
I may not be a Queen or a leader of a big corporation with great influence, but I do have influence where God has placed me. Am I living out the purpose for my placement, maximizing my influence for the Kingdom? Or am I more concerned about the risk to me, the potential of my own personal cost? God’s Kingdom will come, will prevail with or without my participation. If without, then I will miss out on being part of the solution.
Lord, give me the courage and integrity that both Mordecai and Esther display in this story. I want to be part of what you are doing on earth, bringing your Kingdom to bear.
