That we may rely on God
9 Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead
I almost passed this verse today but then I stopped and read it again, and then it struck me....how many times we as Christians have use this sentence in referring to our circumstances which led us to depend on God because we were not able to do much about it. In general what makes christians rely on GOD?
1) A feeling of helplessness.
2) Having to make a hard decision and you don't know what to do.
For Paul it was "the sentence of death which they felt in their hearts". This is not playing games with God. Paul's life was in danger because he risked it fully for the Lord. He risked it untill the point of death.
This is not relying on God to pass a test or an exam. This is not relying on God to be rich or getting a nice job. So many times we want to rely on God for things which are really nothing but selfish desires from our hearts. In Paul's case it is about relying on God for God's sake and purpose not his own.
When was the last time you relied on God because of HIm and His work?
