God bara the heavens and the earth

I just starting to learn Hebrew. It's amazing how the text comes alive in a new way when you can read it in its original form.

In Genesis 1:1 the word translated as create is ברא (Bara). This is the same root that is translate in other places at fatten. It is suggested that the word bara may more accurately be translated as "fatten" or "fill". This would mean that 1:1 could read "In the beginning God filled the heavens and the earth." I'm not suggesting that God did not create them but instead that, This creation poem start after creation or assume that it is common knowledge that God create them. This first verse may be a introduction to the poem that follows; it could also be a synopsis of what is to be told. Maybe it's both. I would imagine 1:1 could also be said like this: "[the Heavens and earth had been created, then] In the beginning God filled the heavens and the earth [and here is how He did it...]" and it would continue with verse 2 and on...
