The Opposite of Pride

The admonitions here might give the impression that human beings, even believers, tend to be selfish, proud and self-absorbed. Left to my own devices, that’s exactly what I am. So, what’s the alternative?
From this verse, the remedy for selfishness is not trying to be impressive. Think about this: everything we are, everything we have or ever will accomplish is a gift from God. Now, God is impressive. Let’s shift the glory His direction.

The opposite of pride is humility. Now, humility is not thinking poorly about yourself. That’s called low self-esteem. Humility is thinking less about yourself. When I think more about others, then I think less about myself.

Why doesn’t Scripture teach us to look out for ourselves? After all, if we don’t, who will? God knows that we will look out for ourselves. We don’t need more instructions on that. That’s why He instructs us to take interest in others. We tend to miss that.
