American Idols

John brings his writing to a close and in an almost p.s ending leaves us with "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen." The longest living disciple who had seen more of life and what life can do says in essence "little fellas watch out for idols" Knowing that within man lies this deep craving to worship something. To take our eyes of the living God and put affection, time and energy into something that will destroy our soul and keep us from serving the very One who can revive and give life to our soul. John with all of his experience takes us by the shoulders and says "Christian, son or daughter of God, do not play around with giving your heart to one who is not worthy. I have seen too many times how someone full of life for God gets ripped off but dividing his heart with another.." Shocking, almost elementary but essential for us to let sink into our heart and mind. Who do I really worship? Is there anyone or anything that has taken God's rightful place in my life? Where are my deepest affections and energy being exhausted? Ultimately who has my worship?

Father I truly believe I only have the capacity to worship one. I will love one and hate the other. Search my heart Lord to see if there is a imposter that has taken the throne of my heart. I desire for You to be the One who rules my heart and receives my worship.
