Irony: Jesus' Parents Lost the Savior
Jesus’ earthly parents lost Him for three days (Luke 2:42-46). You wonder if the fact that Jesus is the Son of God was a comfort for them or an element of distress. I panic when I’ve lost one of my children for three minutes. (Readers don’t need to share that with my wife.) Three days is a big deal. They were distressed (Luke 2:48).
I can accept the idea of people straying from God, but God straying from people; that’s a new one. Of course, He was in His Father’s house.
I love this account because it is a rare glimpse into Jesus’ childhood. The Bible gives great detail about Jesus’ birth, then picks up again at His baptism. This passage gives a little insight into the fact that Jesus grew up just like everybody else. “Jesus matured, growing up in both body and spirit, blessed by both God and people” (MSG). Jesus can fully relate to childhood and adolescence. He lived it. The Creator and Savior of the world is one of us. He experienced the ordinary and the extraordinary.
How can you connect with God in the routine of your life today? He understands everything that you face today.
