Proper Perspective

Acts 5:40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Earlier this past week a certain NFL player was sent home for being late to a team meeting. From what reports are saying he was very upset about being sent home. Later on that week he had one of his worst games ever. His opponents said that he quit playing hard. Some TV analysts labeled this player as fragile because this player gets paid very well to show up on Sundays and perform at his best. It’s easy for me to jump on the band wagon and bash this player. But how do I respond to adversity? The apostles rejoiced that they were beaten in the name of Jesus Christ. Wow!! I wish I had the apostles perspective when it comes to suffering.

Lord I want to be a Christian that has Your perspective when it comes to suffering. It’s easy for me to say that trials produce patience, character, and perseverance to others but much harder for me to live it out in my own life. Forgive me for being fragile and help me to be more like the apostles who rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer for You.
