A warning sign to us!

This verse is a strong reminder to us that there is no universal formula for following Christ that works for all people. Verses 1-6 tell us that the Children of Israel all had the following things in common:

1. They were all under the provision of God (they followed the cloud)
2. They had all been baptized
3. They were unified about eating of food and drink
4. They witnessed the miraculous power of God (they drank from the rock)

and verse 5 tells us "But God was not pleased with most of them" WOW! That sounds like a pretty good church to me, but we are once again reminded through the scriptures that pleasing God is not about the outside but it's always about the motives of our hearts.

This adds another element for church leaders and our quest for universal discipleship....it doesn't work.

Oh Lord may our hearts be pleasing to you!
