"Immanuel" A poem
On behalf of my Brother James Hayes
“Immanuel”
This story was written a long time ago
So people like us would all one day know
The Way and the Truth and the Life of the One
Our Lord and our Saviour God’s own Holy Son
Nearly eight hundred years before Christ walked the earth
The prophet Isaiah foretold of His birth
He told of a Son that a virgin would bear
That crazy old prophet with long flowing hair
He said they would name Him Immanuel
He’d set free His people and keep them from hell
The child of a woman and the Son of our God
The King of all kings come to walk on this sod
He gave us a list of the Names they would use
Wonderful, Counselor, King of the Jews
The High Mighty God, The Prince of all Peace
The Remover of sins from the west to the east
Then many years passed and finally one day
The archangel Gabriel was sent down to say
Hail maid Mary blessed are ye
Thou art highly favoured and the Lord is with thee
He said she’d been chosen to bear in her womb
The High Son of God though she’d known not a groom
With wonder and awe she asked how can this be
He said God’s Holy Ghost shall come upon thee
And when she had heard this and humbly agreed
God sent His Spirit to bring her His Seed
She had promised Joseph that they would be married
And he knew that it was not his child that she carried
But he was a good man and his mercy was ample
Not willing to make her a public example
Though he was of a mind to send her away
The angel of God had something to say
While Joseph was sleeping the angel appeared
Said this woman is blessed be not a feared
The Child she carries must be not abhorred
As a matter of fact He’s a Gift from the Lord
I want you to raise Him as if He were your son
But know in your heart He’s the true Promised One
Name Him Yeshua when He arrives
For He shall be Saviour to so many lives
Then many months later a star in the sky
Drew men from the east whom they called the Magi
They came to see Herod and brought him the news
We’re seeking a Child the King of the Jews
So they left Herod’s court by the star were they led
On to Bethlehem town also called House of Bread
Gifts they came bearing such as gold that was pure
Sweet smelling incense and for His burial myrrh
When they entered the house and saw the young King
They bowed down and worshipped and angels did sing
While shepherds were tending their flocks on that night
Shining down on them came brilliant white light
The angel said fear not I bring great tidings of joy
This night a Saviour is born a sweet Baby Boy
They saw heavenly multitudes praising and then
They heard peace on the earth and good will toward all men
(Merry Christmas)
