while this passage appears on the surface to deal with adultery and an adulteress, it also seems to address the fact that our hearts wander away from God by smooth talk and seductive 'reasoning'. is this a warning to remain true to our Lord? to not step over those boundaries and become swayed by other gods?
is he reminding us that he is a jealous God?
is he spelling out for us that dangers lurk to steal our devotion away from him?
*****************************************
if the word is a lamp unto our feet, then it brings our path under light. under inspection. for one cannot see so clearly in the darkness. and if our path is lightened - available for all to see - it's harder to deceive than when under cover of darkness, now isn't it?
God sees all without having benefit of a lamp lighting our way. if we stumble in the dark he knows. he sees. we aren't fooling him by turning out the lights. when we run down the path to adultery, he sees it. and when we are swayed away from him, it is not out of his sight. whether or not we can see it clearly,... he does.
