Colossians: An Arrogant Book!
In one sense Colossians is the most arrogant book in the Bible and I love it so! In this "Jesus plus" world we live in I am thankful for a book that unequivocal and unabashedly states the absolute sufficiency of Christ. Jesus alone is your complete source of life (ch 1); your complete compass of faith (ch 2); and your complete motivation for living (ch 3 & 4). This book teaches that when you are anchored to Him, the distortions of the Jehovah Witnesses won't disturb you. The seduction of a newer Mormon revelation won't sway you. New Age philosophies and Scientology won't challenge you. The ever pervasive attraction of astrology (since three quarters of the almost 2,000 daily newspapers in America contain it) will not enchant you. Nor will the materialistic glitz and glitter of a playboy lifestyle entice you. Why? Because "in Him you have been made complete" (Col 2:10). Yes, Colossians is the most arrogant book in the Bible and I love it so!
