GOD Reveals
Abraham's heart is bent toward GOD's people, even the righteous living in Sodom. Abraham feared speaking to the Lord, but did so boldly in order to save his Kingdom family. GOD just finished promising Abraham he would be the father of many nations and he would be blessed. Then the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?
GOD's plan is to reveal to his community of followers what he is doing. He began telling Abraham of his plan. As Abraham walked with the men toward Sodom, his heart became heavy when he heard the city would be destroyed. Abraham must have had Kingdom family inside the walls of the city. Abraham began to plead for the lives of his Kingdom family. "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes..." Abraham took a chance to speak his heart before GOD.
Why did the Lord tell Abraham of his plan. Abraham pleaded for the lives of the righteous in the city. Several times throughout scripture we see man "standing in the gap".
The writer of the Chronicles urges us from the heart of GOD, "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land".
GOD has chosen to live in community with mankind. It's as if GOD can't live without his creation. GOD's passion is reveal his plan to his community.
Think of it like this, it's almost impossible to keep secrets from your spouse. Your love for your lover causes you to share the deepest areas of your heart with that lover. GOD loves us so much that he shares the deepest areas of his heart with us. WOW!
