Command to Rest

This passage is echoed in the 10 Commandments found in Exodus 12. It ties the Creation story to the story of the Hebrews and shows that it is all part of the same revelation. By inclusion in the Commandments, it tells us that God factored into the workings of creation the necessity for rest. It isn't just a day to stop making money, honor God, or even to focus on family, it is simply part of our wiring. We were created by God to need rest in order to function properly and I don't just mean sleep.

We need to rest in order to live in harmony and have good health, Good emotional relationship, and a Good perspective on things. That's why God "hallowed" it.
