Ham Gets A Bad Wrap
There are some interesting facts here that seem to conflict. If we believe that scripture does not error then we must understand the story.
For years people have blamed Ham for doing something bad and he has been credited for being cursed by Noah. But, that does not add up to the story.
Sure, Ham saw the nakedness of Noah, but why was Noah naked? And why did it say that Canaan's father, Ham, saw his nakedness? Why did Noah accuse his younger son of doing "something" when Japheth was the younger, not Ham? Why did Noah curse Canaan if Ham was the one that saw him naked?
First, it was Ham, the father of Canaan who saw Noah naked. Noah never accused Ham of doing wrong. Second, grandparents have been known to have referred to their grandchildren as their own. Therefore, Canaan could have been the younger son that Noah had referred to.
Allow me to submit this idea. Is it not possible that Canaan saw his grandfather drunk and went into his tent do take advantage of his grandfather, leaving him naked? Could this have been molestation? Ham still could have walked in on his father who was passed out or asleep naked.
Why else would the bible say that Noah knew what Canaan had done? It must have been Canaan who had done something so inappropriate as to be cursed by Noah.
It is the progression of sin that can be followed here. The land of Canaan was known for it's sexual sins. Sodom and Gomorrah were located in the land which was known for it's homosexuality. It was this land that racked up so many abominations that their punishment was to be wiped out by a roaming nation called Israel who would take their land from them.
