Jesus points out that even though Nicodemus was a Pharisee and an important Jewish leader, he still had much to learn. Knowing and doing are two different things.
There is a danger for me to think that because I have been walking with the Lord for 11 years means that I have arrived at some spiritual level. The reality is that I need to make sure that I am practicing even the most basic of spiritual truths every day. When a baseball player falls into a hitting slump his coach will always go back to teaching him the basics so that the hitter can get his swing back. I need to evaluate my life to see if I am practicing the basics.
Lord Jesus, Your Word says that you will set Yourself against the proud and that You give grace to the humble. I humble myself before You and ask that I would help me to make sure that I am practicing (not just knowing) the basics with my walk with You.
