Backsliding and the heart

No believer can be any better or any worse than the condition of his or her
heart. Our heart’s condition will decide our behaviour; it will determine our
lifestyle. Whilst it may be true that I have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as
my personal Saviour and I have been born again, these things do not remove
the ongoing need for a clean heart. A backslider is a person who is a ‘backslider
in heart’ before they ever live an outwardly backslidden life.

If our connection is with the world and natural things, then we will
communicate with the world; our connection will decide the level of our
communication. Whatever is written on our heart will determine our direction;
if we spend more time with the Lord then we will experience the Holy Spirit’s
work in our hearts, which will enable our relationship with the Lord.
