a cheap thrill that cost everything

How insignificant this must have seemed in the moment. A man on a roof with opportunity for a cheap thrill. Yet how much was at stake in this moment. Attached to the glacé was adultery, death to the innocent ( Uriah and the unborn) Davids future family and his integrity. All of this hinged on this moment. Would he settle for a "cheap thrill" or covenant like Job to keep his eyes pure? No doubt the bible refers to this being a time where "kings" go to war and David is found at home never realizing that he was in the greatest war of his life. The unseen war to kill, steal and destroy yet the king's guard down given to road of comfort, the flesh is now running his life and the demise is eminent. All of this attached to a glance. The great value attached to a covenant and commitment like Job. The greatest battles lie silently lurking and the great loss attached to the cheap thrill. Father oh what a great lesson to be learned. May the truth be seared upon my heart. May the casualties of the cheap thrill be spared in my life as I commit to integrity. Commit my every glance, thought, action to You. Be so near Holy Spirit to quicken my heart to the battle that rages for my soul, my future, my family. Be the source of strength to stand in the seemingly small moments to recognize there is no such thing as a cheap thrill!
