A Tree

A Tree
A tree - so much of the history of mankind is wrapped up in a tree. The tree of good and evil was the fall of man. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life caused sin to enter into the world. Yet the tree of life was right there beside it. What would have happened had Adam realized that restoration was right there within his grasp? He reacted in fear and shame instead of reaching out for the One who gave him life. He had not yet been sheilded from the Tree of Life. How often we respond to sin in the very same way. We hide in fear and shame instead of running to the Giver of Life. Once Adam was kicked out of the garden, he no longer had that access to the Tree of Life. He no longer had those intimate moments in the cool of the day - he had to work, to toil in pain to produce what had been freely given. By a tree, the fall of man took place. By a tree, redemption for man took place. Jesus came and died on a tree. A cursed death on a tree to bring life to all, eternal life once again. Death can no longer hold us bound to this earth. The way to the Tree of Life is no longer guarded from us - we can eat freely and live.
