-Nehemiah recognized the role of authority that the king played in his life.
-The king was in tune with Nehemiah and realized when something was wrong. Do I intentionally look for opportunities to connect with those in authority over me so that they can get to know my heart and I will know theirs as well?
-Nehemiah asked for permission to do what he felt the Lord was calling him to do. God sets authority figures in place for our protection and growth. Nehemiah could have gone out on his own to Jerusalem to survey the wall, but he probably would have been stopped with out the official letters the king gave him. This type of leadership comes with maturity. Recognizing the rightful place of those in authority over us will save much heartache later down the road.
-Nehemiah had a soft heart. He was burdened for his home land and was sensitive to the needs of those who were living among the devastation.
-Even as the project was still in its infancy, Nehemiah leveraged every opportunity to point people to the glory of God and to celebrate God’s goodness in his own life. He came to bring a message of hope to the people of Jerusalem.
