Joy is Stolen

The initial result of Cain's sin is that he is "very angry" and his face becomes "downcast". His first sin (fluffing the offering) is not that he is envious of his brother, he is angry. Sin has stolen his joy. God warns him if he continues this attitude, sin will not just steal his joy (at a specific point in time) but will steal his blessings (by removing him from what he enjoys and his safety as seen in verses 11 and 13).

If sin desires to have us (and it does) then we would be wise to master it, as God tells Cain, otherwise we too may loose our joy and blessings.
