RESPONDING TO GOD

God approached Cain at a time when Cain was jealous of the approval God had given Abel's sacrifice. He warned Cain that something very bad was going to happen if he wasn't able to 'master sin'. I think Cain's mistake was that his response to this was to try and fix the problem himself.

Instead of asking God, "Well, what should I do? How do I master sin in my life?" he went to Abel and tried to fix the problem on his own and when we do things completely on our own, they usually turn out bad even with the best intentions. This is an extreme example of how things can turn out when we try to fix our own problems without asking God about it first
