Re-Create
As I read the parable of the wine-skins, I was struck at how God doesn't seem to repeat Himself, or come to "fix" things, but to "re-create". He makes all things NEW. Jesus is sharing how the New Covenant can't be used as a patch for the Old, or that the blood He is to shed can be put into the Old, for the Old can't hold it. Even more frightening, He claims that many will reject the New for the comfort of the Old.
I wonder what needs to be re-created in me this year. I have lots of rips, tears, and frays in my life, but too often I hope Jesus will just come along and mend things. He refuses to fix me or do patch jobs so that I can get along comfortably. Jesus keeps calling me to be re-created -- to leave the old behind and enter into the new. Where am I attempting to do the same old thing, when really I need to surrender to Him and be poured into a new wine-skin? I pray that my fears and comfort won't keep me from dropping everything and "following Him."
