learn more worship more

Right out of High School I attended (CIA) The Colorado Institute of Art for a few semesters learning Audio and Video production. That was way back before the digital age when we learned to record on 4 track cassette recorders and on 2” tape that could be spliced if necessary to edit (I am getting so old!) One of the classes I took was live sound engineering. It was during this time that I learned to hear the dynamics in live music. What is clipping? Was the voice buried in the mix? Did it sound too muddy? Should we have used a gate, limiter or a Compressor? Should we have brought out the pink noise generator in order to tune the room?

If all of that sounds foreign to you it’s because you have never learned or studied live sound engineering. For me though I can’t attend any live concert without analytically listening to how it sounds. And I must say that when the mix is good the whole experience is that much better! But don’t be hard on yourself because you can’t hear what you don’t know. On the flipside I am quite sure that the things you have studied and experienced you have come to love when the quality is there.

The same is true with God; simply put you cannot love Him if you don’t know Him. Not knowing enough about God affects everything including your worship. Think about it; how much more meaningful would your worship experience be if you learned something new about God every day? I like what Mark Batterson said in his book ‘Primal,’ “Quality of worship is determined by the quality of knowledge. The more you know, the more you have to worship. Simply put: learn more worship more.”

I want to encourage you to read through your Bible this year with me and learn more about the God that we have all acknowledged exists and say that we love and serve.
