Casting Lots

Life unveils joy and misery through consequences of decisions--both important ones and menial ones. If you want to take an even further step back into a more difficult discussion, we could talk about free-will versus predestination. I'll leave that meaty debate for another day. Let's assume for the sake of this discussion that every day requires individual decisions like: pants or shorts; milk or juice; drive or walk; etc. One of the most important thing I remember my dad hammering into my skull growing up was my "decision-making" ability. Never once did he instruct me to cast lots. Instead, he would rebuke when I would grasp for some sort of lot or fleece. So my question or thesis of this short essay simply is what wisdom of Acts 1:24 "casting lots" applies today?
Luke tells us that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature. I would define wisdom as Godly living amidst a self-centered culture. So I think Luke is telling us that Jesus got better at making decisions. Because ultimately we know Jesus volunteered to go to the cross. Jesus did not cast lots in the garden; he knew in His spirit what the Holy Spirit was leading him to do.

Whether we cast lots or shoot from the hip I know this is true: trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. The disciples made a decision and went with it. We have no record of them second-guessing. They knew a decision needed to be made so they made one.
