* Eternal – What does this passage teach me about God?

God is a great father. Jesus makes an analogy to a father giving his son what he requested. Jesus then states that if you can give your children good gifts, our Father in Heaven can give us great gifts. This has proven true in my own life on many occasions.

* Internal – What does this passage teach me about myself?

For me, this passage is tough. By profession, I point out spiritual shortcomings and pitfalls. It is my job share spiritual instruction, so I have a great responsibility to remove the “beams” from my own “eye.” Lord, help me to preach my messages to myself first.

* External – What does this passage teach me about other people?

Their fruit will prove who they really are. In the same passage that Jesus commands us not to be judgmental, He lets us know that we can spot “false prophets” or those who seek to do us spiritual harm, by their fruit.
