Gentleness and Respect
I truly believe the most important part of this verse is, when we witness to an unbelieving world, we MUST do so in such a way that does not make us seem like rude "better-than-thou" Christians, but rather just merely showing them the love of Jesus that Jesus showed us! Jesus never forced His relationship on us, we chose to do so because He showed us love. So we must always remember to love those who we are witnessing to, no matter how rude they may even be to you. We must stay loving, that's the only way we can truly express Christ in ourselves. Even if they don't listen, or still have problems with Christianity or why we believe, our reward is given by Christ, and through Christ's love, we can show love to others even when they don't always show it back. I mean think about it, how often do we really show our love to Christ and how often does he raise his nose to us? Never! God is so loving and compassionate, and therefore we are to act likewise. Never hold grudges against people because they may not listen or come to believe the same things; we really have no place to do so when we sin so greatly against Christ daily.
On another note, I do believe we should always give reason to why we believe! This doesn't have to mean apologetics, it can just be our personal, emotional reasons for following Christ. Either way, we should always have a reason to believe in Christ. Whether for some people it was led to by books and logic, or others who trusted in Christ when they went through hard times and found love in Christ. Remember, your personal testimony is the best way to witness and it is the best "reason" to give as to why you believe! Just don't forget that.
In Love : )
