Boom!... Roasted!
I have a friend that likes to say," Boom!... Roasted!" every time an individual is called out on any given issue.
With this question I feel like many of us are "roasted," straight up called out! We so often enforce upon others the importance, the truth, the fear of Jesus as Lord... and yet we turn away, after ensuring others feel thoroughly inadequate, and slander our friends, or anger easily, or carry pride, or carry out sexual acts we know aren't pleasing to OUR LORD! Yet we still do it anyway.
So why do we call Jesus Lord? If we're not going to do the things our Lord commands, and we so openly express to others, and yet those things conveniently don't apply to us. At what point do we accept that we've been neglecting our duties as followers of Christ, throw down our hypocrisy and return to His majesty?
It's hard when Jesus ask's questions like this, yet in the deep penetration of the question, we discover resurrection from our insurrection. We come to a place where we can say, "yes Jesus, I've been roasted!" And out of that admission we allow ourselves the necessary permission to realign ourselves with the will and the way of Christ Jesus our Lord!
That "place," mentioned above, where we can say, "yes Jesus, I've been roasted," comes when Jesus asks a question and we are able to be brutally honest with ourselves concerning our condition. However, much of the time we're not willing to be brutally honest with ourselves. Much of the time that honesty doesn't occur until we have seriously bottomed out in the weight of our self-righteousness.
The beauty of it all, our Lord in His infinite grace accepts us back with open arms every time. He could turn us to the wild, yet our Lord chooses to shelter us, in care, knowing what our outcome would be if left to the wild.
"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?"
How honest are you willing to be with yourself today? Are you ready to throw down your hypocrisy and return to His majesty?
At what cost?
