The story of Jacob and Rebekah is a beautiful love story... but I relate much more to Leah, the ugly, unloved one.
When she has her first son, she is still hopeful that Jacob will love her.
When she has the second, she admits that she is unloved.
When the third is born, her expectations have moved down from "love" to simply "attachment."
By the time the fourth is born, she doesn't even mention her husband anymore. I wonder if her statement that "This time I will praise the Lord" was a statement of faith, a sign that she had shifted her focus from trying to please her husband to trying to please God... or was her statement one of hopelessness, a realization that no one but God would ever love her?
