You would think that by now Jacob would realize that playing favorites just leads to strife.

Jacob's parents had played favorites -- his mother favoring Jacob, his father favoring Esau. That sibling rivalry nearly tore the family apart.

Then Jacob favored Rachel above Leah, and caused competition and division between his wives.

Now Jacob is favoring Joseph... and because of that, his brothers hate him. He is destined to be an outcast in the family.

So if you really want to do someone a favor... don't play favorites!
