Spritual Communication
- Romans 1:16 (ASV)
- Philippians 4:7 (ASV)
- 2 Timothy 3:16 (ASV)
- Hebrews 10:24 (ASV)
- Hebrews 10:25 (ASV)
There are four different types of Spiritual communication required for spiritual growth. We are required to engage in all four in order to become more like Christ.
The first type is Bible study. God communicates with us through His Word. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness". We cannot possibly grow spiritually if we do not immerse ourselves daily in the wisdom and guidance that He has provided us in His Word.
The second type is prayer. We communicate with God through prayer. Philippians 4:7 commands us to "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." There are many examples in the New Testament of Christ himself communicating with His heavenly Father through prayer, and we are commanded to follow His example.
The third type is fellowship. We communicate with other believers about Christ through fellowship. Hebrews 10:24-25 holds another mandate for us in regards to fellowship: "and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." God created us to be social creatures, and we are influenced by each other, either for good or for worse. Time spent with other believers influences us to do good, and encourages us as we see the world crumble around us.
The fourth type is witnessing. We communicate with non-believers about Christ when we witness to them. According to Romans 1:16 (" For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.") the gospel has the power to save everyone who believes in it, and we as Christians need to be sharing the Good News contained in the gospel with non-believers.
Will you make a commitment with me today to each of these four areas of spiritual growth, so that we may become more like Christ?
