Neither do I condemn you
John 8:11 “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
One by one they dropped their stones, beginning with the oldest. Why? Because the longer you live, the more accutely aware of your sinful nature you become. But here is a key for life: Jesus came not to condemn the world, but to save it. It would have been easy for the woman to lay at Jesus' feet and grovel. I know it is for me. Sometimes my sin can become crippling, allowing conviction to turn into condemnation. But Jesus has been very clear about His view of sin in us. This is the same God who said to Joshua, "Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?" He lay thus on his face because he was desperate before God because of sin in the camp. But once we bring it to God, He calls us to march forward. "Go and sin no more."
Lord God, thank You for the sacrifice You made to set us free from the law of sin and death. I reflect on and am filled with fresh appreciation for Your sacrifice on the cross. As I have been learning about Your authority, I pray that You would help me to apply Your remedy and attitude towards sin to my life. Thank You for your gift of freedom, and Your call to fight. Amen.
