Aim a Little Higher

Charlie Peacock has a song entitled "Aim a Little Higher." It speaks to our tendency to settle for less in life and in our pursuit of Jesus. The reason Paul begs us to "live a life worthy of [our] calling" is because "[we] have been called by God." What's the empowering / inspiring idea here? The calling or the source of the calling? It strikes me that the more powerful motivation to live a life worthy of my calling is not found in the calling itself but in the One who is doing the calling. God. My creator. My redeemer. The One who knows me more intimately than all others. The One who sees the whole of human history. The One who builds his church and reconciles all things. It is this One who calls me. The details of the calling are important (Paul goes on to flesh these out practically) but it all starts with a core conviction that my calling is valid because the One who called me is qualified to call me. Nothing else has this right. I rejoice today that my calling comes from the One who created me and "knows the plans He has for me - plans to prosper me and not to harm me. Plans to give me future and a hope."
