Reading the passage of Proverbs 1:20-33 this morning, my thoughts came to the end times that Jesus refered to in the Gospels. I began to re-read this passage with that in mind... It is a warning agaisnt rejecting God even though you hear HIS truth everywhere. Everyone has the same choice to make, to accept wisdom (God's truth) or to deny it and choose the world view.
Warning Against Rejecting Wisdom
20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street,
she raises her voice in the public squares;
~~~We hear God's truth everywhere, HIS message is easily accessible especially now a days. We learn about it in American History, about the founding of our country, and the passage of this Gospel around the world. It is always in front of us somewhere, calling to those that will listen. Yet, there are many that see the truth in front of them, or hear it calling in the streets and still choose to ignore it, like it wasn't even there. Still, there are even others that are offended at this widsom, and wish it removed. Yet, that is just evidence that it is calling loudly for all to hear! ~~~
21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out,
in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:
22 “How long will you simple ones love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate knowledge?
~~~Time after time, and choice after choice, people keep denying God. They deny that Christ Himself came to save them from their sins. They think their ways are pure. I remember living this way, choosing my own ways over the truth I knew was there before me. Yet, thankfully, Grace was given to me, and I accepted it with such thanksgiving and joy. We see though, many reject and even mock our savior. He is made fun of, and even the people that follow Him are persacuted. We of course know this, and accept it, for Christ Jesus Himself said this would happen. There are consequences, and they are promises and warnings about what will happen before it happens. People have time to turn to HIM and His wisdom that is still calling out to many who will listen. Will your voice be calling out to those who want to hear? ~~~
23 If you had responded to my rebuke,
I would have poured out my heart to you
and made my thoughts known to you.
24 But since you rejected me when I called
and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand,
25 since you ignored all my advice
and would not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster;
I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;
they will look for me but will not find me.
29 Since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the Lord,
30 since they would not accept my advice
and spurned my rebuke,
31 they will eat the fruit of their ways
and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
~~~Surely as God's promises always come true. This is just as sure to happen. God told us that a Messiah would come, hundreds of years before He came. He has laid down prophecy since the beginning of time not just for Christ Jesus our Savior to come, but for HIM to come again. I believe even this Proverb tells about this tribulation period where He will remove Himself and HIS Children and leave the ones that want the choice to live for themselves. It will not be a beautiful sight, evil is ugly. It is darkness, and with the absent of light, it is going to be something I am glad I will not be part of. Thankfully we know the scriptures tell us that there is a length to this time and those that finally see the wake up call and choose to follow HIM and accept HIM will be rewarded for their preseverance. Yet, this next verse, is which I cling to. His promise is to be trusted, His word is completely true. Hold fast to our Savior, for HE will fullfil his promise and return again to bring us to safety!~~~
33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
~~~ Completely thankful, completely humbled, Completely HIS! What then shall I fear?~~~
