Background of Psalm 8

Psalm 8 was most likely written after David defeated Goliath and was appointed as the chief musician and given the job of playing for king Saul. (1 Samuel 17:4).

While Psalm 8 looks back at the defeat of Goliath it is also a prophetic Psalm about the end of the age. At the end of the age the people of the earth will have chosen another king, another beast to which they will hang all of their hope on.

In that moment though David's greater Son - Jesus - will come and destroy the beast that is oppressing the earth.
