Breaking it down!
1 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Eugene Peterson has a way of breaking it down in the Message.
Take your everyday ordinary life! Today is usually my day off so I get to relax, read and putz around on things that I want to do but I had to sit through a 4 hour webinar of a group BILD.org that we are considering partnering with in South Africa and at Shoal Creek. Had to make an attitude adjustment. It was one of those things that I knew I had to do but didn't want to do.
So "Take your everyday ordinary life and place it before God as an offering." Father I know that you are the king of all that there is and I am not. Thank you for reminding me that there are somethings in my ordinary life that aren't enjoyable and fun yet necessary and good, that great things aren't built in a day and that caring for the future is just as important and caring for today.
Thank you that I can have the confidence that as I put my ordinary life before you as an offering that you are in control and work your ways through my simple obedience.
Sitting here reading these verses brings today into perspective.
