Love vs. Apathy

I used to think that the opposite of love was hate. In some ways, I suppose it is. But I am beginning to see more clearly now that, in fact, apathy can be a greater enemy of love even than hate. Why? Because hate still has passion. It may be heading in the wrong direction, but at least it is heading somewhere. There is motivation behind it. With the proper healing, perhaps it can be turned 180° to love. But what are you going to do with apathy? It's just dead. It doesn't care. How can you motivate someone who doesn't care? It just makes itself comfortable with how things are, and pretty much gives up on everything else. What are you supposed to do with that? With God and His grace and healing power all things are possible, but it is clearer to me now why Jesus says what He does here in this verse (Rev.3:16).
