This is the second time that just after Abram has been humble in spirit and obedient that God immediately shows up with reassurance. How incredible is this God... See Genesis 13:14. After Abram gives Lot first choice and Lot takes the "whole plain of Jordan...like the garden of the Lord," God shows up and says "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever." Now, after Abram has been obedient and given up the spoils of his victory to the King of Sodom, God shows up and again: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward." We have a great God.
