Eve's hope
After reading Matthew Henry's commentary I am amazed at how when Eve gives birth to Cain she says "I have gotten a man from the Lord" but that many have supposed that she meant it as "I have gotten a man, the Lord, God-man". She knew of the hope of a Messiah and thought that this first child was her redeemer. She thought Cain was Christ (oh how wrong that was), the one to bring her back into paradise. But this underlies a short coming of humanity, countless generations thought their generation would see the Messiah come. Just as there have been those in every generation since Christ that believe theirs is the last (including the disciples). We always think it will happen NOW with us.
