Transplants

I was talking with a friend the other day about the meaning of a tree planted by the water. Initially, living in Colorado, my first thought is of a tree that I see near the Arkansas river. This tree stands alone and is located just off the bank near the calm water. However, if you look at the scripture more carefully, it speaks of the waters - plural. In Israel, olive trees are planted in rows with streams of water used for irrigation. To be planted by the waters does not mean to be alone with just enough to sustain life, but it means to be secure and prosperous among all other trees as they flourish together in the dry and arid lands. But take the scripture a step further. You are also "planted". The Hebrew meaning for the word "planted" is actually better described as "transplanted". So not only are you secure and prosperous in the garden of God, you are also hand-picked by Him! It's pretty amazing knowing that God found me in the desert, in desparate need of water, and transplanted me to a place where I am secure. And in this security he also chose to prosper me. Oh the beauty of being a tree transplanted by the waters!
