A Demon Possession in Kenya

When I was in Kenya this past summer (2009)...I saw something crazy.

I saw a demon possession. I still don't know fully how to describe it.

The boy was on his knees in a pool of water getting ready to be baptized. Before he was baptized he started to fall head first into the water. I thought he was fainting; however, when the two pastors in the water with him tried to pull him up, he was forcefully pushing head first into the water.

"...He often falls into the fire or into the water." Matt. 17:15

Then, as the men were pulling the boy up out of the water, his body flexed and convulsed up and out of the water and he made the disapproval noise you can make with your tongue (the "nich - nich - nich" noise) as he was rising out of the water.

“Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water." Matthew 17:15

Immediately the Kenyan pastor yelled the name, "Jesus Christ" and said something along the lines of "Devil come out of him in the name of Jesus Christ!"

And immediately the boy's body relaxed. Immediately there was peace.

Everyone in the room was in shock - some had tears in their eyes.

The boy had tears in his. He looked so tired and worn out...

But the pastors continued, about 15 seconds later, saying, "__________, do you accept Jesus Christ as Savior & LORD of your life?"

The boy mumbled something.

The pastors asked again and he replied with the faintest of a whisper, "Yes."

He was then baptized and walked away with tears in his eyes. I watched him. He walked to the back of the room and just stared out the open door with tears in his eyes.

Do you have enough faith? Jesus Christ needs us to do what He has called us to. The Kenyan pastor said that demon possessions happen all the time there.

Some of us may ask, "Well, why don't they happen all the time where I live? Why not in the United States? Or the U.K.? Or Canada?"

Because Satan is smart. He knows that we are best diseased by apathy. He knows that if demon possessions happened often here, we'd be pushed out of apathy and into full-on belief. Then, with the tools and resources we have, we'd passionately reach out to the world for Jesus Christ. Satan knows not to possess people so obviously here.

But there...he does it all the time.

Do you have the faith?

Jesus Christs' power was in that room the moment His Name was called upon; and that moment, the EXACT moment the devil left.

Do you have the faith? Believe & live a life for Jesus Christ - doing what He did...have the faith.
