Holy Custodian
The cleanup begins. As soon as Adam and Eve contaminate God's perfect order, He comes to them to begin making things right. The beauty in it is that He doesn't come steamrolling through, but comes looking to restore relationship. "Where are you?" God had returned to the garden as He had regularly done before. It was man who had run to hide. It was man who had changed the nature of the relationship. It was man who now sought separation. Even though serious consequenses were on the horizon of a broken creation, God had an end in mind; to restore His community with man, and it would start imediately with a sacrifice to cover sin. God personally attends to the duty of making things right. We see the initiation of a theme and a practice of covering sin that would run through God's story until a day that His own ultimate sacrifice would completely free and heal man from sin. Only He can make it right once it's been comprimised, and He has shown Himself faithful throughout history. May we learn this quickly and stop hiding. May we understand the fulness of His grace and mercy and immediately look for Him when we've wronged Him and acted in our own wisdom and desire.
