You know, it is funny how you never see the truth of this scripture until you are on the other side of the bottle looking back at how messed up life was while you were so consumed with a love for booze. I mean, how many problems do we face when drinking is serious business? Lots of them I must say. And we never see the problems that we face because of the booze as our fault. I mean, we get arrested for drunk driving and it was the cops fault because he was a jerk. Forget about the fact that we were probably belligerent with them. Our marriages fall apart because we are jerks when we drink. I mean, my dad never saw the issues alcohol caused in his life until it was too late. He was on his deathbed when he finally admitted how much of a jerk he had been. But all the years before that he lost his family, got in all kinds of trouble with the police, had DWI's, lost friendships, and had an all around tough life. It is for good reason that God says we are not to be mastered by anything other than Him. Mastery of things like booze only lead us to places that cause pain, heartache, regret and shame. We are left singing the blues.
